With Patch 4.5 comes a new system to fighting and contesting bosses, as well as a special way of acquiring boss-like mounts. Enjoy!

Boss Changes

With 4.5, XL hopes to start overhauling open-world boss raids in order to make them more fun and appealing to the general player base, starting with Kraken and Red Dragon. The goal, XL says, of this update is to increase the fun that an average player can have with such raids. XL believes that it is natural for stronger guilds to monopolize such content, and that while this makes the game fun for those guilds, it decreases the overall appeal of a server with time.

As such, XL wants this update to begin to maintain a balance of power between the different factions and nations, so as to level the playing field for weaker players, as well as help provide more content for these weaker players.

Below is an example of such a schedule.

SaturdayThe red dragon appears Karkasse as a member of the Nuian faction. (This is due to the fact that Red Dragon was downed by the Nuians on Thursday.)The Nuian forces are given the objective of defending the Red Dragon, and if the Red Dragon remains alive for the duration of its uptime, these Nuian forces receive some sort of reward (Not clear if it is the boss drop or not).

Non-Nuian factions are given the task of slaying the Red Dragon, and will receive loot from the boss if they down it.

Let’s suppose that Red Dragon was killed by Haranyans on Saturday.

SaturdayCycle continues…

As mentioned before, this revamp will first be applied to Red Dragon and Kraken, but XL plans to implement it to other bosses such as Morpheus, Leviathan, and the such, in the future.

Also, XLGames is changing their raid schedule once again by adding Tuesday bosses back into the mix. This is something that was not changed in the NA/EU versions, so as a result, this piece of information does not really matter for the Trion versions.

Boss Location Changes

Some of the locations of certain world bosses have been changed. The new locations are shown in the table below.

Elite Mobs

After killing one of the bosses shown in the table above, if their respective region was in War at the time that they were killed, then out of the shadows come special elite mobs, which are weaker than bosses but will drop some sort of new, valuable loot. It is almost certain that these drops will be better than drops from regular mobs, which many interest certain players that want to experience a little bit more of the PvE side to Archeage.

Below are some images of the new Elite Mobs.

One of the drops that these elite mobs will drop is a new type of Larceny chests, which will be unlockable only via one of the new Golden Keys. These new chests will drop even better loot than previous chests, including the occasional Tier 1 Lunagems. The recipe for these new keys are shown below, as well as changed recipes for Copper Keys and Silver Keys.

Boss Pets

As mentioned in my 4.5 Patch Notes, XLGames will be introducing a brand new system for acquiring Boss Pets, the first of which have been released along with this patch. These of course are the Red Dragon Mounts. XL has promised to introduce more of such mounts in later patches, but for now, only the Red Dragon Mounts exist in this line of mounts and pets. Think of the Earthen Roar/Steel Lightning, that is dropped and progressed via Hanure.

Acquiring and Growing a Dragon Mount

The first thing that players must do on their quest for a Red Dragon Mount is acquire a Frozen Heart of the Red Dragon. A rare drop from the Red Dragon boss in Karkasse, this item is needed to start the process of obtaining a mount. Do beware that this is item is Bind on Pickup, and once it is obtained, only the player who won it through the loot process can begin to grow the Red Dragon Mount.

Next, the player must take his Frozen Heart of the Red Dragon and 150 Prime Lunarite, and hand them in to one of the three Daru Dragon Trainers, which are located in Marianople, Austera, and Freedich Island, one of whom is shown below.

Upon doing that, the player will receive a colored Frozen Heart of the Red Dragon, with the possible colors being Red, Green, and Black, each representing a specific sub-type of the boss mount. There are three different types of Red Dragon mounts (Red, Green, and Black), and the chances of obtaining a specific one are 33% each.

Once players obtain  a specifically colored Frozen Heart of the Red Dragon, they can use it on a special platform for its growth in Marianople, Austera, or Freedich, with Marianople being available to Nuia, Austera to Haranya, and Freedich to all factions/nations.

Once on the platform, the baby mount must be fed special packs (It is fed via the Dragon Trainer NPC), which can be done by anyone.
The packs require the following materials to craft:

  • 3 Archeum Ingots
  • 1 Small Seed Oil
  • 100 Glossy Feathers
  • 100 Labor

In order to fully grow the dragon mount, five stages of 200 packs each (So 1,000 packs total must be fed to the NPC) must be fulfilled, but do beware: if the owner of the Heart does not feed any packs to the mount for three days, then the baby mount will die, and as a result, disappear. The owner will not be reimbursed.

That being said, there is a daily quest available to all, the condition of which is to feed the baby mount a single pack. All who help out with the growing of the baby mount by feeding it a pack will receive a special Flaming Box as a reward, which when opened randomly gives a player one of the following:

  • 1 Red Dragon Spinal Ridge
  • 3 Honorforged Medals

When all 1,000 packs have been fed to the baby dragon, the owner of the mount must create a special declaration called The Order of Fire (which can be produced at a Printing Press), and afterwards, finally, the mount will be ready for cultivation, and the owner will receive a mount in his inventory. This mount holds many similarities to that of the Wyvern, but, unlike the Wyvern, the mount is kept in the owner’s inventory. The Red Dragon Mount cannot be summoned during battle, and cannot be mounted when one has a trade pack on their back. Additionally, the mount will only last for 30 days, after which the mount will became unusable. In order to make it usable again, the owner will have to go through much of the same process again (I don’t know the exact renewal process at this time).

In addition to the mount, there are some cool titles which owners of the mounts can obtain. These titles have no bonuses. They are listed in the table below.

Red Dragon Mount Types

As mentioned before, there are three different Red Dragon Mount types: Red, Green, and Black. The mounts are only different with respects to their color and Level 50 ability, although at this point in time, I do not know the exact difference in their Level 50 abilities.

Each pet has, by default, 103,369 Health. The health can be increased via special equipment for these mounts, which can be produced in Karkasse.

obtainable only by whales and nations, which are whales anyway 😛 Considering those are the only people that could actually be able to take on a dragon, no ”casual” guild or god forbid solo player is going to get his hands on one of these.
